American Foreign Policy One Year Later: Is There a Trump Doctrine?
One year into the 45th President’s term, can we define a Trump Doctrine based on his administration’s decisions and strategies in foreign policy? What are its successes, hazards or vulnerabilities? How does it compare to Reagan’s conservative internationalism? Dr. Kaufman, with his deep understanding of American Foreign Policy, will share his views as we are considering the implementation of Trump’s foreign policy and his vision for America in the world.
Dr. Kaufman, a political scientist and Pepperdine University professor, specializes in American foreign policy, national security, and international relations. He has written extensively on American foreign policy topics, including the books In Defense of the Bush Doctrine and Dangerous Doctrine: How Obama's Grand Strategy Weakened America. He is currently serving as the fifth Visiting Scholar in CU Boulder’s Conservative Thought and Policy Program.
For an introduction to topics Dr. Kaufman might cover, read his September article, “Trump’s ‘Principled Realism’ a Welcome Departure from Obama’s ‘Dangerous Doctrine.’ “
